Meghan og Harry træder tilbage og takker af på Instagram

Prins Harry og hans hustru, Meghan, træder tirsdag tilbage som seniormedlemmer i det britiske kongehus.

I stedet begynder parret og deres søn et nyt liv i Californien, hvor de allerede er flyttet til, efter at de i januar meddelte, at de ønskede et mere uafhængigt liv.

Beslutningen betyder, at Harry og Meghan ikke længere vil udføre opgaver på vegne af dronning Elizabeth. De opgiver samtidig deres apanage og royale titler.

Pressen var en af årsagerne til royalt exit

Harry og Meghan vil desuden tage en pause fra deres Instagram-profil under navnet "Sussex Royals". Det skriver de i et opslag mandag aften, hvor de tager afsked med deres 11 millioner følgere for en periode.

Harry, der er søn af prinsesse Diana, har tidligere udtalt, at det ikke har været en nem beslutning at træde ud af det britiske kongehus.

Han har blandt andet angivet den britiske presses voldsomme bevågenhed og til tider kritiske tilgang til parret som en af årsagerne til beslutningen.

Parret vil stadig være kendt som hertug og hertuginde af Sussex. Hvordan parret fremover vil optræde i offentligheden står endnu ikke klart.
